Quality surfaces for die manufacturing
Which came first, the chicken or the egg? This question also comes up in surface design. Does the virtual model come before reality, or the other way around? Reverse engineering enables high-quality CAD surfaces to be generated from existing surfaces with amazingly little effort. This technology is implemented not only in car body design, it’s also used in downstream processes like the manufacturing of sheet metal forming tools, where it enables simpler overbending of manually modified die surfaces to account for springback.

From a paper-intensive process to digital mold manufacturing.
The mold spectrum of BOSCH Formenbau GmbH in Mühlhausen includes the manufacturing of precision injection and die casting molds weighing 0.5 to 15 tons. Molds for injection-molded parts are produced by 1K and 2K methods for the safety, electrical equipment and automotive industries. Bosch Formenbau is a highly valued partner to OEMs and their suppliers with die casting molds for aluminum and zinc.

Optimized process chain in drawing die manufacturing
Car body parts ejected from the die spring back to varying degrees. This can be compensated by deliberately accounting for the calculated springback effect in the CAD die design, which is known as overbending. (Content only availeable in German)
