    Quality surfaces for die manufacturing

    Which came first, the chicken or the egg? This question also comes up in surface design. Does the virtual model come before reality, or the other way around? Reverse engineering enables high-quality CAD surfaces to be generated from existing surfaces with amazingly little effort. This technology is implemented not only in car body design, it’s also used in downstream processes like the manufacturing of sheet metal forming tools, where it enables simpler overbending of manually modified die surfaces to account for springback.

The die manufacturing department in the Dräxlmaier Group has therefore realigned its electrode manufacturing process, and has since realized productivity gains of 50 percent with the consistent interaction of Tebis software and the Zwicker MES system.
