Tebis launches Release 6 of its Tebis 4.0 CAD/CAM software

Optimized usability and new functions for even greater efficiency


Martinsried, June 20, 2018 – Tebis, a specialist in CAD/CAM and MES process solutions in model, die and mold manufacturing, is launching the latest release of its CAD/CAM software at the beginning of the second half of 2018. True to the motto of "Simple, transparent and even more automation," Release 6 has been equipped with a broad range of new 5-axis functions and innovative automation options. Companies can expect a maximum efficiency boost in their own applications from the new release: Shorter calculation times, more precise data and ultimately leaner manufacturing cycles.
The release will be shipped to existing customers in late June.

The most important new features and add-ons in Release 6 at a glance:

5-axis simultaneous milling

A significant highlight of Release 6 involves the new and optimized functions for 5-axis simultaneous milling. These include simple application options for highly efficient roughing of free-form surfaces, free-form pockets and pocket and slot geometries in rotational parts and face finish milling, which is now extremely user-friendly with direct surface selection or the new tilted direction preview for milling between vectors.

Improved surface quality in 3D milling

In Release 6, Tebis has also made new advances in 3D finishing with constant 3D tool tilt direction, which supports even better surface quality in transition areas. The part can now be subdivided in flat, neutral and steep milling areas for 3D finishing. Users can therefore achieve even smoother milling results while also reducing machine runtimes by specifically setting the 3D tilt angle of the cutter.

Extreme cutting performance with circle-segment cutters

Over the past several years, circle-segment cutters have developed from a secret tip to a trending tool due to their exceptionally high performance.  Tebis has already been supporting these tools for the past five years. Based on the improved tool tilted angle provided in Tebis Release 6, users can now better exploit the potential of these cutters in 3 and 5-axis simultaneous machining operations. The contact point can be optimally positioned as a function of part geometry. This enables users to get the maximum cutting performance from their tools. It shortens machining time and improves surface quality.

Faster programming with golbal material assignment

Release 6 delivers significant time savings in NC programming by globally specifying the materials that make up the part. This is the result of improved handling in NC automatic operation. Tebis automatically takes the stored cutting data for each material from the Tebis internal tool library.

Automatic deactivation of NC Jobs  in NC templates

Tebis users can automate NC machining of part families with NCJob templates. However, individual NCJobs are often omitted based on the geometry of the current workpiece. This new function significantly simplifies working with NCJob templates: Users can specify the automatic deactivation of these omitted NC jobs in the configuration. The processing sequence is then automatically adjusted in the Job Manager. Machining can then proceed with no interruptions.

Accelerated data processing  for automatic NC  functions

Release 6 enables a flexible assignment of protected surfaces in feature machining.  This can save a great deal of time in work preparation while tangibly reducing the potential for errors.

Convenient management of  cutting data in the Tebis international tool library

The new simplified management of cutting data for tools keeps companies flexible and lets them always quickly adjust their cutting data in the tool library – including cutting speed, feed rate, rpm and contact – to the specifications of different tool suppliers. This is achieved with just a click of the mouse for all selected tools as a function of manufacturing type: drilling, milling, turning or deep drilling.

New unit management improves the reality of virtual machines in NC simulation

Tebis now provides another process library with new unit management. Users can manage machine units for their machines in a central library: for example, jaw chucks, steady rests, partitions and machine tables. The new process library supplements the existing machine library and the tool library, allowing the user to conveniently construct realistic digital twins for their real machines with little effort, including all extension parts and tools. This lets users more reliably simulate the manufacturing process in advance in the virtual world.

CAD – processing scan data 

The overall part digitization process is now significantly faster thanks to the new Faro interface in Release 6.  The Faro interface now supports modern blue lasers that can transfer significantly more detailed information and larger fields of view. Multiple geometry elements per plane can also be recorded. Planar surfaces and cylinders are automatically extended. Another advantage: The Faro arm, mouse and keyboard can be operated synchronously.
