Relieving radii without transitions

The tip Creating transition-free pressure surfaces described how transition-free pressure surfaces can be designed in the sheet metal die to reduce manual reworking. Can this also be done with radius reliefs?

Yes. Radius reliefs can be designed with the "Modify radii" function (ActSurf/Reduce).

Here's how you do it

1.

First, use the "Determine roundings" function (NCPrep/Radius) to define the areas in which you want to reduce the radii.

2.

Mark the areas to be rounded with a separate color. To do this, click "Mark" in the "Roundings" dialog.

3.

Now reduce the radii. This is done by calling the "Modify radii" function (ActSurf/Reduce). The "Modify radius" dialog opens.

4.

Select the topology and the radius. Topologies do not have to be separated or created.

5.

Click "Offsetting" in the "Parameters" area. Enter the offset as well as the values for the tangential transitions in the starting and end areas (marked in red).

6.

Confirm your inputs. The result is displayed.
