Tebis Version 4.0 Release 2 has been delivered

According to Dr. Wolfgang Schinke, Head of Tebis AG manufacturing Technology Development, Tebis pursued three major goals with its Version 4.0: The first was modernization of the interface and the second was a simple and clear operating concept. Third, they wanted to develop a product structure that meets market requirements. All three goals have already been successfully met with Release 1. But Tebis is raising the bar even higher with the new Release 2.

Tebis is a technology partner for roughing

Strategies for adaptive roughing and integrated reroughing are available in Tebis as of Version 4.0 Release 2.

The new strategies are especially well suited to components with steep cavities and can also be used very effectively for hard materials. They realize their full potential in combination with high performance cutters (HPC). In adaptive roughing, the large depth of cut and optimal utilization of cutting data ensure high-efficiency manufacturing at the same time. The path layout is automatically adapted to the geometry without full-width machining. The integrated re-roughing counteracts the formation of larger steps in steep boundary areas: These areas can be machined from bottom to top with a smaller depth of cut. The result exactly corresponds to that of roughing in planes.

But faster milling strategies alone are not enough: How to best combine various machining types to achieve the best possible results depends on a very wide range of factors. These include the component geometry, the materials used and the available tools and machines. You are always on the safe side with Tebis as a technology partner. When correctly implemented, the new strategies can save up to 60 percent of processing time, while still minimizing tool costs with optimized service life.

The main advantage for regular customers with a maintenance contract: The "Full-Width Avoidance" add-on from the "NC efficiency" category has been added free of charge to the licenses for the "Mold and Die Premium" and "Mechanical Engineering Pro" industry packages and for the "Manufacturing Pro" special package. In addition to the functionality for adaptive roughing and for integrated reroughing, this add-on also includes the functionalities for full-width avoidance using trochoids and for full-width machining with feed reduction.

Augmented product structure

Tebis Version 4.0 Release 1 hit the market sporting a modern user interface customized for CAD/CAM operations. Users were also impressed by the new product structure specifically designed for industry-specific requirements and applications. The Tebis product palette is further complemented in Release 2, including special packages and add-ons. The add-ons can now be more flexibly combined with the industry and special-application workstations. The free Tebis Browser 4.0 viewing tool that can be used to view CAD files without any Tebis license is especially ideal for providing a quick overview.

Integrated Wire EDM

Tebis completed the process chain from design to manufacturing in Version 4.0 Release 1 – the wire EDM functionality is now fully integrated in Tebis. Tebis uses the wire EDM functions of the integrated DCAMCUT Expert NC programming environment, leading software on the market in this segment. The software manufacturer, DCAM GmbH, is a 100% Tebis subsidiary. This enables the detection of features, assignment of machine and quality data, definition of calculation parameters for the NC paths, visualization of trimming operations, detection of drop-out to parts and preparation of the NC documentation. Wire EDM is available in the special package as a stand-alone wire EDM workstation or as a supplement to an existing mold and die or mechanical engineering package. The special package can be expanded with design and data management add-ons and interfaces.

Expanded Function Scope

With Version 4.0 Release 2, Tebis is systematically paving the way towards increasing automation, increasing standardization, higher process reliability and better performance.

The new functions for active surface preparation deserve special emphasis. Since transition-free offsets can now be directly applied to the active surface instead of wall-thickness attributes, all process steps are significantly simplified and accelerated. The data from a Tebis pilot project speak for themselves: Active surface preparation was shortened by up to 50 percent, machining with HFC tools was 15 percent faster on average and manual reworking was reduced by up to 25 percent for draw dies.

Performance: Tebis users have enjoyed the possibility of moving the NC calculation offscreen while continuing to work in the foreground without reduced performance since Tebis Version 3.5 Release 7. In Version 4.0 Release 2, the machine collision check can now also be performed offscreen.

Guide curves that are outside of the component can now also be used for calculating the NC paths in finishing operations. This results in smoother surfaces and faster processing. The initial practical tests have yielded outstanding results.

Furthermore, Tebis feature technology has been supplemented with automating and accelerating functions. Complete 2.5D processing can now be even more conveniently and individually adapted to specific company requirements.
