New add-ons: Laser Hardening and Laser Weld Cladding

Tebis is expanding robot technology in addition to CAM software add-ons


At its 2017 Open House, Tebis AG presented two new add-ons for its CAD/CAM manufacturing packages: Laser Hardening and Laser Weld Cladding. Both add-ons are available now. At the same time, Tebis robot technology, which is frequently used with the new application technologies, has been extended to eight individually configurable axes that can be moved simultaneously.

Laser hardening can be used to locally harden complex steel parts and steel castings to a defined depth of up to 1.5 mm without necessitating subsequent milling to compensate for the resulting distortion. This enables die and mold manufacturers to increase the strength of trim and coining steels, cutting edges, and mold plates, improving the service life of the manufactured dies and molds.

Laser weld cladding is used to repair areas of parts during die and mold manufacturing. A laser beam fuses the weld metal and the part material in layers, forming a strong bond. This can be followed by milling.

The new Tebis solutions introduced at the 2017 Tebis Open House use integrated CAD preparation functions as well as integrated collision checking to support the work of NC programmers. Thanks to 3D beam geometry and integrated tool- and technology data management, this results in NC programs with smooth pivot movements for the robots commonly used, even when processing highly complex parts.

The extension to eight individually configurable axes with simultaneously integrated traversing and rotary table axes now enables the flexible implementation of robot manufacturing cells with additional traversing and rotary table axes. Additional functions for influencing robot poses have also been provided to prevent undesired singularities and pivots into the limit switch area.
