Moulding Expo 2019

Tebis AG presents new technology for more automation and consistency in manufacturing

06/04/2019

Tebis, a specialist in CAD/CAM and MES process solutions in model, die and mold manufacturing, presented visitors at the 2019 Moulding Expo (May 21 to 24 in Stuttgart, Germany) with new technology for manufacturing that further automates design as well as manufacturing preparation and NC programming, and combines them in a system world.

Tebis Version 4.1 is designed to support users from model, die and mold manufacturing with a single system for all process steps, all the way up to the finished NC program. With Version 4.1, NC programmers will be able to perform tasks with better automation and fewer gaps, without having to switch between systems.

Save time with parametric design

CAD and CAM functions have always been closely connected in Tebis software. As a result, Tebis sees the new parametric/associative design in the new Version 4.1 as a milestone. "The question of how parts can quickly and easily adapt their design to each other concerns everyone who works in manufacturing," said Peter Obermaier, who is responsible for the rollout of Version 4.1 at Tebis. "This harbors potential to simplify design work and to save even more time. In the future, not only NC programming but also design will be highly automated in Tebis."
In parametric/associative design, element parameters such as length, radius or direction can be easily changed after the initial design in a context-sensitive menu or through the new object tree. The entire part then updates itself automatically. Design tasks can be standardized via templates.

New Tebis Job Manager

According to the software provider, NC programming will be even more simplified in Version 4.1. Tebis has completely revised the menu structure of its NC Job Manager. This enables NC programming to be completely practice-oriented. The new Tebis Job Manager precisely models the NC programmer's procedure and serves as a guide through the entire programming process: The machining type, strategies and elements can be selected and machines and tools can be specified, step by step. NC programming, in combination with Tebis template technology, has thus become extremely simple.

New milling technologies for 2-axis and 3-axis machining

Visitors to the trade fair learned about two new features in milling, based on a software prototype. A milling strategy for plunge milling is available for 2-axis machining in the next release. Plunge machining is used if the contours are too high for side milling.
Machining in the axial direction results in faster material removal with a simultaneously lower load on the machine spindle. Tebis supplements 3-axis machining with run-time optimized roughing. Connecting paths are traversed at positioning feed rate here. The advantages are greater performance and lower tool wear.
