5-axis milling Generate collision-free CAM models
Utilize the full potential of machines with 5-axis NC programs
In Tebis, all multi-axes machining operations on milling, turning and turning/milling machines as well as with robots can be very easily planned and calculated without collisions. Integrated machine kinematics ensure automatic creation of homogeneous toolpaths with tilt direction checking and low tool wear.
Multi-sided machining with positionable axes
Whether a part is to be milled simultaneously on multiple sides with positionable axes or by 5-axis simultaneous milling always depends on the specific machining task, the complexity of the part, and machine kinematics. In many cases, multi-sided machining is faster than 5-axis simultaneous machining and even yields better surface quality.
2.5D multi-sided machining
The tool can be very easily positioned for any number of levels to machine 2.5D ruled geometries. This feature, combined with feature-based automated 2.5D machining, allows you to generate a omplete 5-sided machining operation quickly and with little effort within a single NC program.
3+2-axis multi-sided machining
3+2-axis milling programs can be very easily generated in Tebis: The procedure is always the same whether programming 3-axis or 3+2-axis programs. Another advantage: The tilt direction can always be adjusted interactively, enabling you to remain flexible despite the high degree of automation.
3+2-axis multi-sided machining of undercut areas
When carrying out multi-sided machining of undercut areas, you can use key and ball cutters and achieve very high surface quality with the shortest possible tools. The part can be completely machined in a single setup. This machining method is also suitable for 5-axis simultaneous milling of undercut pockets and breakthroughs as well as for flow passages and impellers.
5-axis simultaneous avoidance milling
5-axis simultaneous machining in the release direction is very convenient: You can create 3+2-axis NC programs without tilt direction with no extra effort. Simultaneous 5-axis programs are calculated fully automatically. The tool angle is optimized - and always taking the machine kinematics into account.
Avoid collisions automatically
Collisions between the tool holder and the partare detected during calculation and are automatically avoided in 5-axis simultaneous machining. This enables outstanding machining of electrodes and parts with deep cavities, for example, with short tools.
If desired, you can wait until the end to decide if you want to remove residual stock using 3+2-axis machining with positionable axes or 5-axes simultaneous machining. Tebis performs high-precision calculation of the remaining residual stock. Depending on the machining situation, you can interactively position the tool using positionable axes or enable the fully automatic calculation of 5-axis simultaneous toolpaths.
5-axis simultaneous machining for special manufacturing tasks
5-axis simultaneous machining is the supreme discipline of milling: It creates high-quality surfaces more quickly and efficiently than any other milling method on modern high-performance machines. Tebis lets you fully unlock the potential of your expensive machines.
Easy to use
NC programming of 5-axis simultaneous milling paths is easy to learnin Tebis: It largely corresponds to 3D programming. Tebis programmers who previously created 3-axis toolpaths also learn to program 5-axis milling programs very quickly. Each function is tailored to special machining tasks and only includes those parameters that are actually necessary for the respective task. Multiple surfaces can be machined at one time withno extra design effort using direct surface selection . Special preparation functions can be used for optimal and semi-automatic preparation for complex 5-axis machining operations.
Special milling functions: Tebis includes eight functions for programming 5-axis simultaneous toolpaths. All of the functions contain only those parameters that are needed for the actual machining task.
- MSurf: HSC milling with ball cutters
- MFace: HSC face milling of simple and complex free-form surfaces with a lead angle
- MCont: Side milling of planar and constant-curvature flank surfaces, such as with circular segment cutters
- MSide: Side milling of complex free-form surfaces
- MCurv: Face milling and side milling of curves
- MEngrave: Engraving
- MRadial: Machine rotational parts with contour-parallel roughing
- MRough: Adaptive or contour-parallel roughing of free-form surfaces
- MPocket: Adaptive or contour-parallel roughing of free-form pockets
No extra design effort: Select multiple surfaces and perform direct 5-axis simultaneous machining.

Tebis includes all functions for 5-axis simultaneous roughing, including adaptive roughing strategies that you need for roughing special geometries. Uniform stock allowance reduces machining times for subsequent finishing. 3-axis and 5-axis roughing operations can be easily combined, ensuring the greatest possible material removal.
Roughing of rotary components
The "NC5ax / MRadial" function is ideal for fast NC programming of 5-axis simultaneous toolpaths for roughing pocket and slot geometries with rotationally shaped parts: Again, select only surfaces and stock and then machine the part with contour-parallel path layout.

5-axis milling along a curve
Perform 5-axis simultaneous milling along any contours while accounting for part and protected surfaces. This method is suitable for scribing in model-making, for example. Collisions can be avoided with automatic avoidance strategies or by specifically selecting the tool tilt direction. The required guide curves can be very easily prepared with exactly coordinated Tebis CAD functions. It is also possible to develop engraving paths directly on the part surface using special strategies.
5-axis side milling
You can manufacture all types of flank surfaces under ideal cutting conditions and reduce machining time with optimal downfeed: This allows material to be removed in layers with smaller lateral stepover, protecting the tool. This is especially advantageous for machining with circle segment cutters with barrel geometry: Tool tilt direction is precisely adapted to the geometry

5-axis surface milling
Tebis creates NC paths directly on the surface. This allows outstanding surface qualities to be achieved with HSC milling (high speed cutting). You can position your tool with a lateral tilt as well as a positive or negative lead angle and thus also ensure optimal machining conditions, even for complex parts across surfaces.
Simple milling between vectors
Specify any vectors between which to mill. The selected vectors determine the movement of the tool. If desired, you can optimize tool movement during programming: Check the tilt direction with the integrated tilt direction preview and adjust it interactively.
