CNC turning for roughing, finishing and grooving

Safe and reliable with perfect virtual simulation

Even if turning appears to be relatively simple and is frequently programmed at the CNC control , you can still benefit significantly if you generate the CNC programsfor your lathes in the virtual world of Tebis. The models of the blank, workpiece and tool assembly on which each calculation is based – from cutter to tool holder – provide you with safer collision-tested CNC programs. Your lathes can be in continuous operation , because the NC programs do not have to be prepared in the NC control. This optimal CAD/CAM strategy provides you with the full benefit of the extremely high material removal rates for turning.


 Comprehensive turning strategy

Tebis has all the functions you need for longitudinal turning and facing and contour-parallel CNC turning of contours and grooves – as well as for face drilling, including off-center drilling. You can just as easily prepare CNC programs to turn cylindrical, tapered or Gewinde or planar threads. Tebis automatically detects whether areas have to be turned from the inside or outside.

High degree of safety with collision checking

If an area cannot be completely turned with one tilt direction, you can define multiple tilt directions during CNC programming. Your machines will work nonstop. If a collision would occur between the tool assembly and part during turning, Tebis automatically reduces the corresponding areas. This is how the calculation delivers collision-checked CNC programs for turning.


Short manufacturing time thanks to efficient toolpaths

You can traverse positioning movements in turning via the shortest possible connection so that retract and stepover movements take less time. Your processes remain safe because automatic collision checking is also performed. If desired, in roughing you can integrate a finish cut that also removes the residual material steps between the roughing paths.


Chip monitoring and full-cut detection

You can also interrupt turning after a definable path length so that the chip is broken in time for soft and ductile materials like copper and aluminum. This allows you to turn the different materials even at very high speeds and maintain the carefully defined cutting dataFull-cut detection in grooving ensures a longer cutter life. You decide what happens if the cutter is in full contact: for example, clearing chips or retracting at feed rate.


Manage machine parameters for NC output

It is best to define during CNC programming where in the CNC program machine components like clamping elements, tailstocks with quills and steady rests will open or close. This saves you time-consuming adjustments on the machine. This is controlled in the Tebis Job Manager, in the same way as the entire CNC automation for turning with templates.


Material tracking for manufacturing progress and simulation

Tebis uses a blank model to determine the location of the material to be machined during turning. With material tracking activated, this blank is updated in real time following each cut. This allows you to visually follow the manufacturing progress at all times and realistically simulate all turning operations.
