It's a well-known task for anyone manufacturing CFRP parts: at the end of manufacturing, a clamping device is needed for trimming the part to the actual contour. The same also applies for thermoforming or for coated parts (interior) The requirements for the devices are stringent: the part must hold securely and enable clean trimming; waste pieces shall not disturb the process.
Our practical example included an additional challenge: no further CAD data were available. Therefore, the wing had to first be scanned and the surfaces reverse-engineered.
This webinar shows how to design a vacuum clamping device in Ureol and to link it parametrically with the part data. We then explain how the device can be quickly and safely manufactured using suitable tools on a gantry milling machine and with the associated digital twins.
